Print Selection Guides from CMIS

A Core Collection: Recommended Print Resources for Primary School Library Resource Centres 2003.
Book 1 Fiction.
Book 2 Nonfiction.

These two volumes were distributed to all Western Australian government primary school libraries. A large percentage of this collection is Australian material.

These two volumes provide a list of recommended resources published in the last 12 months. Australian authors and publishers make up a large percentage of these lists.

The CMIS Website contains information about books written and published in Australia and overseas.

Focus on Fiction: Authors and Illustrators
Australian authors and illustrators are highlighted on this site along with information about books that they have written and illustrated.

Curriculum Resources: Pathfinders
Both fiction and nonfiction books are noted in each pathfinder. Most titles are Australian.

School Library Support: Australian Publishers
Schools should not order direct from publishers but many have their own websites with details of their publications, which can then be ordered from a bookseller.

Kid's Best is a compilation of the CBCA Notable Book List from 1996 to 2000.


Notable Australian Children's Books
This annual Children's Book Council of Australia publication lists approximately 100 books considered by the Awards Judges to be the best submitted in each of the Book of the Year Award categories. To be eligible for a notable recommendation, all books must be by Australian authors and/or published in Australia. The judges' annotations for every title provide sufficient information to make sensible choices for your school.

Magpies
Issued five times per year, this journal provides reviews and articles about quality children's literature. An excellent source of information about current Australian publications.

Reading Time
The quarterly journal of the Children's Book Council of Australia is dedicated to the encouragement of reading and enjoyment of children's books. It contains reviews and articles and is available by subscription for non-members. Another excellent source of information.

The Children's Book Council of Australia awards are for Australian books and Australian authors only. Awards are presented in five categories: Older Readers, Younger Readers, Picture Books, Early Childhood [new in 2001] and Information Books.
